The Arizona Association of Direct Support Providers (AADSP) is a group of providers committed to the following vision, mission and values:
The Vision of the Arizona Association of Direct Support Providers is that all children and families with behavioral health needs have access to the quantity and quality of direct support services (click here for examples of direct support services) they need to help them live full and productive lives.
The Mission of the Arizona Association of Direct Support Providers is to help raise the community’s awareness and appreciation of direct support services, promote the development of high quality family-driven and youth-guided direct support services across the state of Arizona, and provide support and resources for Arizona’s direct support workforce so that it may thrive as a vital and sustainable part of Arizona’s system of care.
AADSP Promotes the Following Values of Direct Support Services
- Support takes place in the home and community, rather than in an office
- Support services are commissioned by a Child and Family Team which helps define the needs to be addressed as well as the frequency, duration and times of delivery
- Support services are individualized to the strengths and culture of the youth and family rather than delivered as a scripted or pre-packaged set of services
- Support services help families and youth develop connections with other families, community groups and resources
- Support services are results-oriented and geared to helping children live in the community rather than in institutions or congregate care settings
- Support services are provided when the family needs them most and in the frequency and duration needed by the family
- Support services are customized and adapted to changing needs, opportunities and environmental situations until successful
- Support services are based on positive actions and opportunities. They are provided using an approach that does the following:
- Builds on capacities and strengths
- Creates opportunities to do things that are important to the individual and family
- Provides chances to make choices and learn from mistakes without criticism
- Focuses on activities that promote dignity and respect for the individual and family
- Provides opportunities that help an individual practice (rather than just talk about) living a life full of purpose in the community
- Avoids punishment, level systems, ultimatums, coercion, removing opportunities to participate in the community, and criticism
